This week is a special Faceoff with Chris because Pop-Pop returns! Chris and Pop-Pop dive into heavy-duty baseball talk, including the Phillies, and the Dodgers’ historic signing of Clayton Kershaw. Is $30 million a year for a pitcher, or any player, hurting baseball?
C&PP discuss the possibility that GM Ruben Amaro Jr. is preparing the Phillies for 2015 and beyond by bringing in low-cost players to fill roles before going “all-in” for 2015 when the new TV-deal money kicks in. The Phillies have little-to-no expectations going into this season; is that a good thing? Could low expectations help if the results are better than originally thought? What can the fans expect out of Utley, Howard, and the pitching staff?
Later, Chris fields a great phone call from his friend Jason – the three guys talk about how outrageous contracts are, and if this is a precursor of what’s to come for future contracts for teams with massive payrolls.
Toward the end of the show, Chris answers fan questions via Facebook and Twitter. Chris covers much ground in this Q&A session from Matt Kemp, Team USA’s chances for a medal in hockey, and who would Chris sleep with, marry, and kill from a fan’s choice of three of Chris’ “favorite” athletes. Lastly, Pop-Pop rants about Chris Christie and the mayhem surrounding the governor of the Garden State, and what’s next for the under-fire leader of New Jersey. Don’t forget, The Chris & Pop-Pop Show returns full-time in March!
